Homemade Bread

Welcome to an original 2015 Mexican movie.  It was written, produced, and directed by a local group of Canadian gringos, living the life of luxury at the very unique Ana Ruth's hotel on Espinoza Calle in Bucerias.

The Script

1.  In a small bowl, put together a cup of warm water, with a tablespoon of sugar, and 2 packages of instant dry yeast.

2.  In a larger bowl, mix 9 cups of flour (any kind), a handful of salt, and butter the size of an egg.

3.  Wait about 10 minutes so the yeast has a chance to grow and then mix the stuff in the small bowl with the flour mixture.

4.  Once it is well mixed, add a small bowl full of water to it and mix it up until it sticks together enough so you can begin to knead it with your hands.

5.  You might want to put butter or canola oil on your hands before you start the kneading process to keep it moist.  You can knead it in the bowl or on your marble counter top.  You keep folding it over and pressing it together until it feels very smooth.  It might take 30 minutes to do this.

6.  Add a little more oil or butter over the top of it and then cover it with a tea towel for 3 hours until it rises nice and high.

7.  Grease up your hands again and then knead it some more - maybe another 10 minutes.

8.  Butter or oil your 3 loaf pans.  Separate the dough into 3 parts.  Fold each part into the shape of a bread loaf,

and place them in the pans.

9.  Cover and wait another hour and a half or so until they rise again.

10.  Bake them in a 350 oven for about 30 min.  The top will be light brown and when you lightly tap the top, it will sound hollow.

11.  Take the loaves out of the oven and cool on a wire rack.  Cover the top of each with more butter to prevent cracking.

12.  Eat with fresh jam.
